According to police statements and local reporting, the police were able to seize electronic eight-liner machines, which are similar to slot machines, across the City of Galveston, Texas City, and La Marque.

Police Take More Than $2M in Assets Generated from Alleged Illegal Gambling

A total of $2 million worth of assets and cash was seized during the operation, although this is just the preliminary amount, which may yet be updated to reflect the actual value of the assets held by authorities as a result of the operation.

Commenting on the recent bust, Galveston County District Attorney Kenneth Cusick had this to say: “This is a continuing effort in the county. It seems like people are not getting the message after Hitchcock and La Marque. These eight-liners, this illegal gambling, is not going to be tolerated.”

The current operation comes after several months of development, with a tip received about illegal gambling as early as June 2026, which triggered a sequence of events, including infiltrating the venue undercover and collecting further evidence.

A total of four people have been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, and each of them now has a bond worth $250,000. A total of 14 businesses were raided by authorities as they sought to crack down on the activity and round up those responsible.

Some of the illegal gambling venues were housed by legitimate businesses, which appear to have continued operating and sticking to regular business hours.

While the status of eight-liner machines is dubious, there is legal precedent that outright rules them out as unconstitutional and blocks them, meaning that the raids against the businesses were justified and fell under the category of illegal gambling, at least from the police’s point of view.

This is not the first time the Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force has worked to interfere in cases of suspected illegal gambling. In February, a similar operation was conducted, with 20 locations raided on suspicion of operating illegal gambling.
