The popularity of prediction markets has been indisputable, despite the continued regulatory headwinds faced by the sector. This has once again been proven by Kalshi, one of the leaders in this sector, as the company’s valuation reached a staggering $40 billion.

Kalshi Hits a New Milestone

Prediction market platform Kalshi just closed its latest funding round, raising another $1 billion to bolster its business. With that, the total valuation of the company has now reached $40 billion, highlighting the success of its product and the continued investor trust in the prediction markets model.

$1 billion

Kalshi made the announcement last Thursday, saying that the latest funding round saw it secure backing from Wellington, Sequoia, and 10 co-investors.

The company added that this money comes as its annualized trading volume surpasses $1 trillion. It added that the extra funding will allow it to accelerate its long-term vision and continue building the next-generation financial exchange.

Kalshi Remains Committed to Expanding and Diversifying Its Offering

Kalshi explained that the prediction market model has proven to be a reliable way to help people make sense of the constant changes in the world. The company’s event contracts tied to elections, interest rates, and the cost of living have helped many people and institutions navigate the chaotic landscape of the modern world. Kalshi officials added that this aligns with the platform’s ambition to price uncertainty and allow anyone to trade on it.

While prediction markets were the company’s starting point, Kalshi noted that it remains open to further diversification – a goal that will be further supported by the latest funding round. Among other things, Kalshi said that it plans to invest in institutional sales, distribution, and product development to support hedge funds, proprietary trading firms, financial institutions, and other “sophisticated participants.” The company explained that in order to serve these sectors, Kalshi must be able to offer reliable infrastructure, deeper liquidity, and products designed around their needs.

Despite its optimism, Kalshi remains embroiled in regulatory trouble amid a broader pushback against the prediction markets sector in the US.
